Medal avalanche
Wow! Just when we were ready to get a bit jaded about how Team South Africa continues to pile up the medals, the hard working team outdoes itself, pushing up the medal count by 25% in just two days.
Most importantly they've managed to catch up to medal leaders Algeria considerably. As of this morning we're only three gold medals behind them, with Egypt still too close for comfort in third place. The latest standing puts Algeria at 52 gold medals, with South Africa on 49 and Egypt at 44.
It seems that Algeria's run of medals ran out of steam yesterday, while South Africa maintained it's run by diversifying its sources of medals to sports such as badminton, sailing, wrestling and shooting.
The best news is that there's still quite a bit of momentum left in the medal machine, with athletics and rowing two sports where major successes can still be expected.
Thanks to all who voted in the poll, looks like the overwhelming majority predicts that Team SA will win, and looking at the medal count that may just come true!
